Stained Glass Kaleidoscope

I've always loved kaleidoscopes and was so impressed the first time I saw a stained glass one.  I was recently inspired by Jean at Vijon Studios in Old Saybrook Ct. to try to design my own.  This is the result.  It was lots of fun and I look forward to making my next one! .

Dirt Floor Studios in Chester

I'm still shining from the recording session at Dirt Floor Studios in Chester.  I've been dying to record with my friend Chris Brown who plays upright bass and ukulele.  Eric Lichter co-owner and operator of Dirt Floor is an amazing musical artist.  His wife Sandra, a beautiful artist as well, is his partner.

The process was organic; totally old school and totally pro!  This is the only way to record at Dirt Floor.  Be a true artist and the truth be told!  I'll be posting my recordings on my websites soon!  Yeah!

If you want beautiful sound, way comfortable surroundings and artistic inspiration - go to Dirt Floor.  There are so many wonderful things about the studio and Eric to know so check out some sounds and more information at the websites below.

A trip to Orange County Choppers

What a coincidence.  The day after I post a picture of me and my bike on Facebook, I get a call to go work at Orange County Choppers in New York.  This was a CNBC shoot highlighting American Entrepreneurs.  What a pleasure to go see the new headquarters, check out some of the one-of-a kind bikes and meet some of the OCC guys.  Yup, I met Mikey!  Paul Sr. is just as you would imagine.  Authentic and driven.  He was nice to me even though I was there to put make-up on him.  He wasn't so keen on the idea, but as usual I used a light hand to cover any obvious problem spots for HD and all went well.  No, he doesn't use make-up on the regular show!  See their website at www.orangecountychoppers.com  Paul Sr. just published a book called "The Ride of A Lifetime".  It's going on my to read list.  Another good day in the life of a CT make-up artist!

Powder Puffs!

As a professional make-up artist for over 20 years, I’m always searching for the right tools.  I used to buy my powder puffs from a local beauty supply chain, but they stopped carrying them and I can’t find a replacement.  I decided to make my own with a new twist on the design and sell them on my Etsy store - http://joelljacob.etsy.com.  I thought that having some patterns and colors for my kit could be fun too.

While on set I usually take care of more than just one actor or “talent for the day”.  I ALWAYS use a separate powder puff on each face for sanitary reasons.  I’ve traditionally written the talent’s name on the back of the puff with an old lip or eye pencil.  The people are always so appreciative to know they have their own puff!  With my new design, you can write their name on the tag!  After use, throw the puffs in a lingerie bag and wash regularly or hand wash.  Air dry for best results and longer life.  I like to use 1 cup of vinegar  during the last rinse cycle to kill any bacteria, keep the colors bright and to prevent lint.

For home use, write the date on your puff as a reminder and wash once a week!  Your face will appreciate it!

This set of three powder puffs is made with 100% cotton – inside and out!  The organic cotton batting inside is sewn on three sides to prevent slippage after washing.  The soft corduroy is just as soft as the velour ones I’ve always used.  I’ll be making more with new patterns as I find them.

Stained glass lampshade - All Done!

Finally done!  Here's my first stained glass lampshade.  I designed it after a trip to New Orleans.  I've had the base for years.  I think I acquired it from my good friend and old band mate Ann.  I'm so glad to have finished.  Feels real good to accomplish this!
